The situation
A butcher and bakery group in Northern Ireland runs a central production operation that supplies its shops and trade customers with prepacked products, cakes, wholesale meat, kitchen foods, sandwiches and pies and pasties.
What I built
- Ordering for shops and trade customers across several product lines, with different access for shop staff, production, drivers, accounts and admins.
- A nightly stock count that writes tomorrow's order. Shops count what's left, and the system works out what each shop needs against its stock targets, including skipping Sunday.
- The paperwork, generated automatically: picking sheets, prep sheets for each production area, delivery dockets, supplier purchase orders, stock reports, waste reports, timesheets and stock submissions.
- Signed proof of delivery. Drivers complete deliveries on the system, which produces a signed docket.
- A trade customer portal. Trade accounts place their own orders and see their own credit notes.
- Repeat orders that place themselves. Standing weekly orders are created automatically before delivery.
- Waste, takings and timesheets recorded by shop, with reports across all shops.
- The right people told at the right time, with automatic notifications.
And the data is theirs to use
When the bakery group brought in a specialist forecasting firm, I built a secure, read-only data feed instead of emailing spreadsheets. It's rebuilt every night, and it can be switched off at any time.
